NASCAR Checker O'Reilly 500 Notes 'n' Quotes

POSTRACE RAIL

Checker O’Reilly Auto Parts 500

Phoenix International Raceway, Avondale, Ariz.

All over but the crying – Jimmie Johnson virtually locked up a record-setting fourth consecutive NASCAR Sprint Cup championship with a dominating victory in the season’s penultimate race.

Ought to be able to manage: Johnson needs only finish 25th to win the championship at Homestead-Miami Speedway. He won’t need to finish that high unless his closest pursuer, Mark Martin, wins.

Some suspects usual, some not – The top 10 had six drivers who are in the Chase (as if there were one at this point): Johnson, Denny Hamlin (third), Mark Martin (fourth), Kurt Busch (sixth), Juan Pablo Montoya (eighth) and Jeff Gordon (ninth). Outside the Chase, Jeff Burton was best in class (second), and the others were Martin Truex Jr. (fifth), Clint Bowyer (seventh) and David Reutimann (10th).

Notable numbers

.162 – Johnson’s career winning percentage.

47 – Johnson’s career victories, 13th best in NASCAR history, one ahead of Buck Baker, one behind Herb Thomas.

108 – Johnson’s almost insurmountable point lead.

238 – Laps led by the winner.

Quotable quotes

“We’re working hard. We’re getting there. We’re not 100 percent there, but we’re gaining.” – Jeff Burton.

“Track position meant so much. You’ve got to push when you can. I got within a car length of him, but I used up my stuff getting there.” – Denny Hamlin.

“Phoenix is one of my favorite tracks, and I really expected to have a good day. It’s been a tough year, but they did a great job today.” – Martin Truex Jr.

“This was kind of a butt kicking, and I’m so thankful to Chad and the guys for giving me a car like this.” – Jimmie Johnson.

So are you the same person just posting under different names? You must be. Trying to make it look like you have support? I doubt there can be more than one person in the area as dim as you are. I have not ONCE criticized anyone for their spelling. It was someone criticizing ME for spelling rather than address the facts. I jokingly commented on their grammatical error in my reply, of course, but it was more as a lighthearted reply to them. Again, I started off ON TOPIC and someone else took a shot at me first. Please get away from your computers and go scrub the outside of you trailers, abuse your loved ones and animals, or whatever it is you do for fun, now!

I care very little about my spelling right now, or that you point it out!

Oh Slimky! You act like such a victim! I am wondering where it is you got your "facts" from. It may be helpful to you to get in touch with a domestic violence shleter to know for sure, that is, unless you refuse to believe otherwise and continue to have racist tendencies. Your statement was absolutley absurd! Ah well, you MUST be a ray of sunshine in SOMEONE"S life! right? at least one?

I started off ON TOPIC as you can see, but others, or one person using many names, ignored the topic and just came after me. I was just defending myself from the un called for attacks.

ok you 2~~ enough is enough~~ it has gotten out of hand~~ I really think both of you forgot what we all are writing about- I dont remember reading an article about typos or whatever you two are arguing about~~ I really think the article is about a man that abuses animals and only got 10 days in jail-- whoopie do-- 10 days-- WOW- I think the bickering between you two needs to stop and concentrate on the EVIL man-The abuser and not yourselves. Write something about the abuser- I would love to read it- I am not being mean, but we all need to think about what life has become-

Typos? You are going to rip me for typos? Once again, the substance of my position is unassailed. Now you stoop to typos. Good job. Can someone worthy enough to actually debate please step forward? Besides, Colusa Resident, your second sentence in grammatically incorrect. Please fix it and re-post!

Can't we all just get along?

Slinky, perhaps you should think before you speak. Quoting what you said, "At least have a shred of inelligence if you want to critisize me." Intelligence is with a "t" and "critisize" is spelled "criticize".

Culture teaches something to 90 percent, yes. 10 percent are decent depite culture, yes. No math problem for me. I still have not mentioned race so you'll have to explain what lines you are reading that between. And I keep hearing that I'm wrong, but no one has shown me how yet other than opinion. Give me facts or go away.

A shred of intelligence huh. Wow why don't you read back what you posted since you seem to forget that YOU are the one to mention race and culture in the first place and in the same sentence. You must forgive me because I don't seem to be as intelligent as you THINK you are. And well, I am not that well with math either. Is it 90 percent of hispanics that abuse their wives, children and animals in your eyes. And then the other 10 percent of hispanics are decent, right, despite what their culture teaches them. Oh I think it makes sense now. You are full of it.

Ok- the bottom line is that it doesn't matter if the person is hispanic or white or black or orange or purple~ the point is~ this man is abusive and should not have the animal or any animal. The judge and or the jury needs to punish this ADULT male.

Michael Vick? Yeah, that is another example of cultural factors leading to illegal activity. Thank you for the good example. I suppose your cultural ignorance is what has you confusing cultural with race. I did not mention race, I mentioned culture. At least have a shred of inelligence if you want to critisize me.

race no the issue - Sep 09, 2008 08:14:15 PM Remove Comment

Wow what a way of thinking. Now if hispanics are animal abusers than whites must be child abusers. A couple in Sutter County are being charged with child cruelty to the woman's 2 year old daughter. I think you need to put your race card away and realize it is not a cultural issue. Does Michael Vick ring a bell to you.

I beleive this person should get the maximum sentence for what he did. don't people realize that animals depend on humans to take care of them and keep them safe. how would that ahole like it if we cut he's ears off and make him look cool. I'm glad the DA office has someone that cares about animals so much. keep up the good work

In my opinion~ This man is a sick individual. Kinda makes you wonder how our system works. Think about it, If I was the one that did that, I am sure that my animal would be taken away. How in anyones right mind could let this sick person and his family still have the dog. Or even an animal at their house. Let see~ Back to our county system~ You figure it out. I am to angry to even keep typing.

No, but some sure are. Its that white men are not taught to be white trash, some just are. You are right, though, some Hispanic men actually treat their wives and children well despite what their culture teaches them. I was wrong to lump the decent 10 percent in with the 90.

Slinky - Sep 08, 2008 02:39:25 PM Remove Comment

Slinky, a cultural thing? For your information not all Hispanic men are abusive to their children and or wives. Should I say that all Caucasians are White Trash?

Wow - Sep 08, 2008 11:36:33 AM Remove Comment

dandt you are right. Its a cultural thing for them. Abusive to women, children and animals.
