Motorcyclist crashes after 25-mile chase

A San Francico man on a motorcycle was arrested Thursday afternoon after he led law enforcement officials on a 25-mile chase from Arbuckle to Woodland that the California Highway Patrol reports reached speeds in excess of 100 mph.

The chase ended when Christopher D. Eakin, 48, lost control of his 1981 Suzuki and was thrown from the motorcycle after failing to negotiate a slight curve on the West Street off-ramp in northern Yolo County, the CHP reported.

Eakin suffered what was described by the CHP as moderate injuries and was taken for treatment to the U.C. Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.

The incident started shortly after noon when a CHP patrol tried to pull a motorcycle over for speeding on southbound Interstate 5 near Arbuckle.

The driver, identified as Eakin, did not yield, and instead sped up down the highway, the CHP reported.

The chase continued south into Yolk County, where Eakin reportedly exited I-5 at West Street, but lost control of the bike.

The CHP said the bike traveled off the roadway and down an embankment, where it hit a drainage ditch and rolled — throwing Eakin to the ground.

Eakin was arrested, then released for medical care. He was transported to he the medical center by helicopter.

His condition was not immediately available Friday afternoon.
