High school students learn about life
Career-minded teens from five Colusa County high schools learned about life after high school May 8 at the Colusa County Fairgrounds.
Students from Colusa, Princeton, Maxwell, Williams and Pierce were offered a unique opportunity to visit a wide variety of representatives in career fields of their interest at the 2009 Youth Career Conference, sponsored by the Colusa County One Stop and Cal SOAP Program.
Career options included architecture, business, construction, journalism, engineering, politics, health services manufacturing, criminal justice, welding, interior design and many others.
Students also received an inspirational message titled “Dreams vs. Jobs” from Keith Hawkins, of Real Inspirations Inc., who speaks to more than 400,000 teens a year.
“Motivation doesn’t come from a speaker,” Hawkins told the students. “It comes from effort.”
During the event, students learned about the college programs, vocational schools and the effort it takes to follow a chosen career path, along with information on financial aid.
