Color their world

Public areas in Colusa, from the Colusa County Fairgrounds to Will S. Green Park, are getting a new look.

A small group from the Colusa First Presbyterian Church spent the past few weeks painting benches and picnic tables used by the public at several locations. More projects are underway.

Jerry Yarwood, a member of the church, said volunteering is a satisfying experience that also benefits the community.

“It gets us out,” Jerry Yarwood said. “It gives us something to do.”

Volunteer Del Nannen said there are about eight members in the group responsible for the beautification projects.

“We, together, decide what projects we want to do,” Nannen said.

The group painted about 20 benches at the fairgrounds before the Colusa County Fair earlier this month. On Tuesday, they painted six benches and a picnic table in front of the Senior Nutrition Center at Will S. Green Park.

The city donated the redwood-colored paint for the park project, so the group needed only to volunteer their labor and a few incidental painting items, Nannen said.

Yarwood said the group’s handiwork around town has not gone unnoticed.

“We’ve enjoyed people coming by and seeing our hard work,” Yarwood said. “It’s a positive thing.”

The group’s next project is the hallway at their own church.
