Colusa Transit adds Yuba City route

Need a ride to Yuba City? Thanks to stimulus money, Colusa Transit will make the trek every Friday at no cost to the rider .

Barbara Salazar, transit manager, said the a bus will depart Colusa at 9:30 a.m. and return at 1:30 p.m.

Colusa residents can be picked up at their homes. Williams, Arbuckle or Grimes residents can catch the transit bus to Colusa, for the regular fee of $1.75 per adult, $1.25 per child.

“The ride to and from Yuba City is free,” Salazar said. “It is being paid for from stimulus grant funds administered through Colusa-Glenn-Trinity Community Action Partnership.”

Although the Yuba City trip is free to transit customers, the transit is limited to driving to Wal-Mart and Social Security. 

Riders will be free to go anywhere they want in Yuba City, but they must be at Wal-mart by 1:15 in order to catch the bus back to Colusa. Charges for more than three bags that are carried on the bus will apply – a rule has been in place since 1999.

The money to provide the new route is for one year only, Salazar said.

A ride to the Social Security office is also available, but Salazar recommends scheduling  appointments after 10:15 a.m. Fridays. The bus will wait for the rider before returning to Wal-mart and back to Colusa.

The bus will not stay in Yuba City after 1:30 p.m.

“It is important for us to stay on time so that those needing to get back to Williams, Arbuckle or Grimes can catch their bus on time,” Salazar said. “If you miss the bus at 1:30, we will not be able to come back and get you until the following Friday, so you are going to have to watch the time while shopping.”

Salazar said the new Yuba City route will greatly enhance Colusa County Transit’s current service, even though it’s only scheduled to last one year. For more information, call 458-0287.
