‘Colusastock' to rock out
Saturday's music festival "Colusastock" could become one of the top events in the history of the county.
Brian Bassett and Legend Soundworks is presenting the day-long benefit concert to raise money for Colusa High School music programs.
The event borrows its name from "Woodstock," the 1969 concert regarded by "Rolling Stone Magazine" as one of the 50 greatest moments that changed the history of rock 'n' roll.
"Everyone knows the Woodstock name," Bassett said. "It's the most famous music festival there is."
Saturday's music festival, in the T.K. Marshall Pavilion at the Colusa County Fairgrounds, will feature a variety of bands, including Highway 20, and a local country-rock band playing a mixture of Top 40 country, classic country, some rock and their own original songs.
Headlining the event is Bassett's own band, Legend, playing cover songs from all the great 1970s' album-oriented bands such as Journey, Styx and REO Speedwagon.
Legend will perform at least one song with the Colusa High choir, Bassett said.
"Colusastock" gets under way at noon, with about seven bands performing, including the Colusa High band and jazz band.
A children's carnival will also be set up for entertainment and a variety of daytime snacks will be available. A beer garden will be open, and the tri-tip dinner gets under way at 5 p.m.
This is the second "Colusastock" event scheduled for Colusa, but May's inaugural event was rained out. The event also competed with the Stonyford Rodeo and Colusa Art Council show.
"There is too much going on in May," Bassett said. "We're trying October because the weather is usually nice."
Bassett said "Colusastock" was made possible through the support of the Colusa County Fairgrounds-44th District Agriculture Association.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Colusa Friends of Music, a booster organization that supports music in the schools.
