One man stabbed, one arrested
A 20-year-old Colusa man was arrested for suspicion of attempted murder after reportedly stabbing another man late Tuesday night, the Colusa police said.
Lying on his back with a severe stomach wound and another on his arm, Johnny S. Huffman, 22, of Colusa, pointed at his assailant who was walking nearby at the Devonshire Apartments on Wescott Road, police Lt. Ross Stark said.
“He looked up and said, ‘That guy stabbed me,’” said Stark, recounting the statement from Huffman.
Nicolas Abel Rodriguez of Colusa was arrested just before midnight and booked into Colusa County Jail. He is being held without bail. No court date has been set.
Rodriguez denied stabbing anyone.
A 3-inch folded knife was recovered at the scene, Stark said.
The incident apparently began as an argument at an apartment that belonged to an unrelated family. Stark said the two men involved in the argument were asked to leave.
“These guys argued all the way down the stairs, and a little later, they (witnesses) heard someone yell out, ‘help me, help me,’” Stark reported.
Police were called at 11:38 about a fight at the apartment complex. The first officer on scene was Colusa County sheriff’s Deputy Joe Garofalo, followed soon after by police Officers Sara Martin and Jarrod Hughes.
Huffman was found lying on the grass inside the apartment complex.
“He got gashed really bad,” said Stark, who was called to the scene and later found what is believed to be the knife used in the attack.
Huffman was airlifted to Enloe Medical Center in Chico where he was listed in fair condition Wednesday morning, Stark reported.
Stark said Huffman and Rodriguez knew each other, but what that relationship was has not been fully discovered.
The police were told they knew each other through a court-ordered work program.
