Colusa foundation helps those in need during the holidays
Christmas is the season of charity and goodwill.
Throughout the month of December, the Community Foundation of Colusa County will beef up its campaign to raise money for its various funds and endowments, with special emphasis on senior nutrition.
Starting with Olde Tyme Christmas this Friday, the Community Foundation will have a special Christmas tree on display that reflects the non-profit organization's holiday campaign.
"It's a 'cartridge in a bare tree,'" said Cheri White, Community Foundation spokeswoman. "If we feed the tree, the community will be healthier."
Until December 31, the North Valley Community Foundation will match local donations dollar for dollar for the Colusa County Senior Nutrition Endowment Fund up to $2,500, White said.
In addition to the senior nutrition endowment, the Community Foundation manages the Colusa County Breast Cancer Fund, the Lenard Green Memorial Scholarship Fund, the Eddie Johnson Heart Disease Fund of Colusa County, the Colusa Mural Project Fund and the Derek Jellison.
The "bare tree" on display has a bird house for each of the funds and endowments that donors can stick contributions in while out and about on Market Street during Olde Tyme Christmas. Donations will also be accepted at the foundation's Colusa Industrial Park office or by mailing a check to 2967 Davison Court, Suite C, Colusa, CA 95932.
Donors should specify which fund they wish to contribute to.
In addition to managing funds and endowments, the Community Foundation has awarded numerous grants to the community, including the Williams Police Department K-9 Unit, Colusa Regional Medical Center internship program, Colusa County Economic Development Corporation, Arbuckle Revitalization Committee, Colusa High School Sober Grad Nite and Williams Community Center.
