Sutter deputies chase speeding vehicle into Colusa County

A high-speed chase ended Thursday with two men behind bars in Sutter County.

Sheriff’s deputies believed they were chasing a suspected thief wanted in connection with several burglaries, but that man, whose name was not released, was not even in the fleeing vehicle, department spokeswoman Brenda Baker said.

“We don’t know why they ran, yet,” Baker said.

The names of the two men arrested were not immediately available.

Sheriff’s deputies were attempting to serve an arrest warrant around 3:15 p.m. Thursday when they spotted a vehicle they believed was matching the description of the suspect vehicle, Baker said.

Deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, but it sped away at a high rate of speed on Highway 20 around George Washington Boulevard.

No one was hurt during the 18-minute chase, which reached speeds of 110 mph at one point and wound through rural country road in Sutter and Colusa counties, authorities said.

With assistance from the California Highway Patrol, sheriff’s deputies followed the suspect vehicle, described as a tan sedan, into Colusa County, Baker said.

It is not clear why, but around 3:30 p.m. the vehicle pulled to the shoulder on Highway 20 where both men surrendered, Baker said.
