Crash may lead to DUI charge

A Yuba City man was hospitalized after a car accident early Monday north of Arbuckle and may face a charge of driving under the influence.

Samuel Galaviz Jr., 35, suffered head and neck injuries in the single-car crash at Grimes-Arbuckle Road south of Hahn Road, according to the California Highway Patrol’s Williams office.

He was taken to Colusa Regional Medical Center and released later Monday, according to Dale Kirby, the hospital’s chief executive.

At 4:53 a.m., Galaviz was driving alone on Grimes-Arbuckle Road when his 2005 Ford Focus missed a left-hand curve, veered over the west shoulder and struck a dirt embankment, the CHP said. The car tumbled over the embankment before landing in a ditch west of the roadway.

Galaviz was not wearing his seat belt and suffered head trauma in the wreck, according to the CHP.

Officers plan to pursue a DUI charge against the driver for alleged use of prescription medication. He was not immediately booked at the Colusa County Jail because of his injuries.

Same-sex slapdown
What's your reaction to the state Supreme Court upholding the ban on same-sex marriage?
I'm glad to see the will of the majority of voters was supported.
I don't agree with it. Equal rights should be for all Californians.
