What's Happening in Stonyford: Squaw Creek Inn couldn't make it through winter

Thank you so much to all our Stonyford-area people, and Elk Creek, too!

I was worried that having two events last Saturday would strain our resources. But both were successful — the FFA dinner and the cake walk both had a good turnout. And the Valentine's dinner on the 14th was also a hit. Again, many thanks to our supporters.

Tuesday dinner at the Grange this week will be Polish dogs orchili dogs, with potato salad and dessert. Shirley and Chuck are lead cook and bottle washer this week.

Bingo is every Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Zumba is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m.

Sew What?! is Wednesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Bring a sack lunch, or grab a sandwich from the Stonyford General Store.

We are so sorry to report that the Squaw Creek Inn has closed its doors. They were closed so much of last summer because of the Mill Fire and the Sites Complex Fire. The roads were closed to all but local traffic. And the lake was closed for much of that time. The helicopters were flying back and forth, taking water from the lake to fight the fires.

So, as I understand it, without the booming business from the summer season to carry them over the winter, they couldn't make it through the lean season. We're sorry to lose this long-standing asset to the community.

Our chicken coop has been quiet this week, so I'll tell you a cat story.

We have a big tuxedo cat, an indoor/ outdoor cat, who loves to bring us a present from time to time. When he came in through the doggie door into the laundry room, the next room he sees is the bathroom. So, he would bring his little critters in, and want to play with them for a while.

Somehow, he figured out that it was easier to keep them within reach if he put them in the bathtub. He could chase them around and around, and they couldn't get away. Well, everything was working fine, we would hear him every now and then, in there, having fun.

Then one day he brought in a bird. Imagine his surprise when things didn't work out as usual. Larry had to help him retrieve the bird from a curtain rod. He put the bird outside, for a second chance.

Tuxedo cat wasn't happy about the whole thing. But he's a good learner. That was only once that he tried that trick.

Be careful driving the grade. I heard there was a bad accident last week. Watch out for ice.
