Orland dairy featured on PBS show Saturday

An Orland dairy and cheese company will be featured on a new public television cooking show on Saturday.

Pedrozo Cheese and Dairy Company is the subject of the “Delicious Discoveries with Daniella Malfitano” show airing at 9 a.m. on KIXE TV (Channel 9).

This is the program’s first episode, according to show representatives. There are 26 episodes planned.

“I’m really excited it turned out to be a really good episode,” dairy owner Tim Pedrozo said Thursday. “I’m excited about the whole project.”

Pedrozo said the film crew came in August and toured both the cheese factory and the dairy facility on County Road 24.

“They taped the process from milking cows to making the cheese,” he said.

The cameras also captured a newly born calf, just moments after the mother gave birth, Pedrozo said.

He said chef Daniella Malfitano was “a lot of fun.”

“She was very hands-on, not afraid to try anything and liked the experience of being on the farm,” Pedrozo said. “It is fun to work with someone who is not afraid of the dairy or the animals.”

The family-run operation has been going 13 years.

His company makes gouda-style cheese in a variety of flavors named after his favorite cows, the Black Buttes and more.

On the show, Malfitano creates a cheesy chicken broccoli Fusilli pasta dish made from Pedrozo’s Natural Gold cheese.

Station officials said “Delicious Discoveries” brings something new to viewers that has been missing in the North State - local flavor.

In the 30-minute show, Malfitano takes her audience “literally from the source to the main course,” the show’s producers said in a statement.

Malfitano wants to show people where their food is grown and why agriculture is a “billion dollar industry in the North State.”

From there, she goes to the kitchen and creates meals.

Her résumé includes some of the most prestigious culinary schools in the world, and extensive travel with some notable chefs, show officials said.

Pedrozo also sells his products at the Glenn County Certified Farmers Market in Orland on Saturdays at Library Park.

“I hope people watch the program,” he said.
