Princeton to host festa
The annual Portuguese festa and parade will be held on Sunday.
The festa tradition began at the end of the great famine period in Portugal. It continues as a celebration of thanksgiving, keeping alive some of the old traditions of Portugal.
This year’s festa activities will begin with a parade at 9:30 a.m. in front of the Princeton Portuguese Hall, followed by a 10 a.m. Catholic Mass at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church during which time the crowning of the queens will take place.
Malloey Alves, daughter of Mike and Karen Alves, has been chosen as queen and will preside over the festa. Serving the queen as side maids will be Laura Ferrena and Judy Mendes.
Gina Amaro, daughter of Mark and Diane Amaro, will reign as junior queen. Maci and Marie Amaro will serve as her side maids.
Lunch will be served from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. and dinner will be served beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Please note the time of the parade and mass have changed from last year. For more information call Mark Amaro at 934-4668.
