Feeling crabby? Here's the plan
Tickets are still available for the Colusa Firefighters Association’s big bash Saturday night.
Crabs are on ice, steaks are ready for the grill and Colusa’s finest are putting on their dancing shoes.
The annual event raises money to fund the association’s smoke detector program, scholarships for area high school seniors, community activities and “Santa on Wheels” during the holidays, according to event organizers.
“All the money goes to a good cause,” said Dave Harbison, event chairman. “But what I like about this event is getting to see people I haven’t seen in awhile. It’s good food and fellowship.”
Harbison said the event has been streamlined this year to run smoothly so that people can eat, drink and get on the dance floor and still win raffles and bid on prizes without delay.
Both the raffle and the auction are mostly silent to save time, Harbison said. Raffle tickets for a variety of prizes can be purchased for $1, with winning tickets posted on the wall. The silent auction will close at specific times, with the highest bidder being awarded the prize.
Silent auction tables will be filled with items such as one and two night hotel packages in Reno, a Steve Young 49ers football, 100 pounds of pork, a half Black Angus beef, John Deere bike, Red Rider BB gun, San Francisco Giants autographed baseball, Shaquille O’Neal basketball, various guns and rifles, a raceway package and more.
Auctioneer is Doug Tuner.
The event begins at 5:30 p.m. for happy hour. Dinner of crab, steak, coleslaw, beans and bread will be served at 6:30 p.m. Dancing will begin around 9 p.m., Harbison said. Tickets are $40 a person and can be picked up today and Saturday at the Colusa Fire Department at 750 Market St., Colusa. Visa and Mastercard accepted. You must be age 21 or older to attend.
Tickets will also be sold at the door, but there is a possibility that the event could sale out, Harbison said. Firefighters will also be offering raffle and drink ticket “packages” at a reduced rate at the event.
Harbison said the crab feed was originally established about 30 years ago to help firefighters purchase gear and equipment, which are now maintained by the city.
“The crab feed now goes to support the firefighters association’s many community services,” Harbison said. “We appreciate all the support we get from the community, and hope people will come out Saturday for the event.”
