Marysville attorney to represent 2nd murder suspect
A Marysville attorney will represent 18-year-old Pedro Hernandez Herrera on his murder charge in connection with the shooting death of a Colusa teen.
Attorney Christopher Carlos appeared with Herrera for the first time Wednesday morning in Colusa County Superior Court and was granted a continuance to Oct. 3 for entry of a plea.
Herrera is one of two defendants accused of murdering Miguel Muniz, 14, on Aug. 23.
Armando Gutierrez Leon, 16, also has been charged with murder. He is being represented by Yuba City attorney Jesse Santana.
Leon is scheduled to enter a plea on Nov. 14.
Muniz was shot and killed with a small-caliber weapon near Third and Sioc streets.
Leon was arrested by Colusa police on Aug. 30. Herrera was arrested on Sept. 5.
Police believe the killing is gang-related.
Investigators said Muniz had ties to the Nortenos street gang, while Leon and Herrera are suspected of being members of the Surenos.
The two groups reportedly had a confrontation prior to the shooting, police said.
