Glenn County Bureau to host Farm Day

It’s not exactly a day at the farm, but the Glenn County Farm Bureau’s annual Farm Day is the closest many Glenn County fourth-graders come to learning about the land.

The 13th annual Farm Day will be held today at the Glenn County Fairgrounds in Orland.

Students from Willows, Orland, Hamilton City, Princeton and Elk Creek will head to the sights and sounds of farming and ranching at this five-hour event.

“Farm Day is an education field trip to promote learning about agriculture, and how agriculture touches our lives every day,” stated Staci Buttermore, GCFB Executive Manger, in a news release.

The theme for the 2008 Farm Day is “Every Day is Earth Day for Farmers and Ranchers,” which celebrates farmers and ranchers who take seriously their role as primary caretakers of the land.

Students will learn about wildlife conservation and modern agriculture techniques that greatly enrich the earth.

The event will feature several new presentations this year, in addition to the popular favorites, Buttermore said.

About 425 students are expected to attend.

Same-sex slapdown
What's your reaction to the state Supreme Court upholding the ban on same-sex marriage?
I'm glad to see the will of the majority of voters was supported.
I don't agree with it. Equal rights should be for all Californians.
