Police search for Hamilton man

A Hamilton City man who escaped arrest Friday is wanted for a reported assault of a Glenn County sheriff's deputy.

Sheriff Larry Jones said Deputy Todd Ross suffered an injured ankle around 9 p.m., while pursuing Rogelio Palacios, 20, on foot.

Jones said Palacios had violently resisted arrest for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance.

Palacios, a reported gang member who was on bail pending trial in May for a previous charge of assault with a deadly weapon, reportedly displayed signs of being under the influence of a control substance when the deputy first made contact with him at the intersection Third and Walsh streets in Hamilton City.

Palacios reportedly submitted to a field test, and apparently showed signs of being under the influence, Jones reported.

Jones said when Ross attempted to take Palacios into custody, he violently resisted, causing both men to fall to the ground.

Palacios freed himself and fled on foot, Jones said, running west on Third Street toward Main Street through a construction area.

After informing county dispatch he was in a foot pursuit, Ross, with Taser drawn, stepped into a hole and badly injured his ankle, Jones said.

Ross got up and attempted to give chase for another 50 yards, but was unable to continue, Jones said.

Ross was taken to a medical facility in Chico, but was actually seen at the Glenn Medical Center in Willows.

The deputy will undergo further tests to determine the severity of the injury. He will remain off duty until his injury heals, Jones said.

Meanwhile, Palacios is wanted for felony assault on a peace officer, along with several other misdemeanor violations.

He is described as Hispanic with brown hair and eyes, 5 foot 10 inches tall and weighs 210 pounds.
