Chase suspect turns himself in
A vehicle pursuit in western Colusa County led to toppled fences, a ground search and multiple charges against a 66-year-old man.
Gary Donald McVey surrendered Monday morning at the Sheriff’s Department in connection with the chase near his Stonyford home. He was booked into the county jail on suspicion of evading sheriff’s deputies, driving under the influence and leaving the scene of an accident. McVey posted bail and was released later in the day.
At 11:15 p.m. Friday, deputies stopped McVey’s 2006 Dodge pickup on Market Street in Stonyford. As deputies took the keys checked McVey’s driver license, he pulled out a second key and drove off, according to Chief Deputy Kevin Wheeler.
When deputies’ cars gave chase, McVey headed toward his home on Indian Springs Road, Wheeler said. During the pursuit the Dodge flattened two fences, ran over a log barrier and struck a tree. After 15 minutes, the driver abandoned his vehicle, and deputies gave up the search around 1:15 a.m., according to Wheeler.
