What's Happening in Stonyford: Not much to do between holidays

Well, we're between holidays, not much happening this weekend. I hope your Christmas was wonderful.

We went to a potluck dinner on Christmas Day that was embarrassing there was so much food. We had turkey, ham and roast beef, three different casseroles of sweet potatoes, and a plethora of side dishes too numerous to count.

There were desserts galore: pies and cookies and three kinds of cheesecake. And, as usual, Larry and I are trying not to eat too much. I don't think we succeeded there.

New Year's Day is next with all of its traditions.

Check out the Timberline and the Squaw Creek Inn for special parties on New Year's Eve. Larry and I will probably be at home waiting for the huge glittering ball to drop in Times Square. It's not the same without Dick Clark, though. Usually, we decide it's not worth waiting up for. Sometimes we cheat and check out the earlier time zones on TV, or look at it on CNN.

Football is coming to the end of its schedule. Our family is delighted to see the Seahawks doing so well. Don't ask me why we're Seahawks fans. Maybe it's the color of their jerseys, or the fact that they were underdogs for such a long time.

They've scored over 100 points in the last three games. If they can keep it up, they may be my pick for the Super Bowl. Of course, there is plenty of college ball to go around this weekend, too.

Stonyford Community Church welcomes a new pastor, the Rev. John Smith, to its church. He'll be living in the new pastorage. He comes to us from the Marysville area, and is pleased to be here.

Tuesday Dinner at the Grange will be back in another week, as soon as these holidays get off of our day. I'll let you know what we're serving in next week's column.

Zumba will be starting up; contact Laurie P. if you're interested in knowing the schedule. Bingo will be the second and fourth Wednesdays at 6 p.m. And the Sew What!? ladies will be resuming their sewing.

It's always fun as the holidays approach. We love visiting with family and friends. But I love getting back to normal after they're finished.
