Area symphony announces season
"Veridian" means "fresh green," and for this reason, a new orchestra is naming itself after the word.
The Veridian Symphony Orchestra is a new orchestra that features professional musicians from the Yuba-Sutter area.
The first two concerts are scheduled for Sept. 10 and 12 at the First Lutheran Church in Yuba City.
Tickets for the concerts and the season are now available. Tickets for individual concerts are $15 and $25. For the entire four-concert season, tickets are $50 to $90.
"I was discussing with some colleagues about how we wished our students could see us perform," said Rebekah Hood, one of the founding members of the orchestra. "Through this discussion, we said, 'Why not do it ourselves?'"
One of the goals of the orchestra is to show how different music can be when professionals perform it live. "You listen to this music all the time — what we'll be performing is all the famous pieces you've heard — and when you see it performed live, it's so much more interesting," Hood said.
The orchestra also emphasizes its local connections, with all members from the Yuba-Sutter area.
The First Lutheran Church will host the remaining concerts of the season, set for Jan. 7, Jan. 9, April 1, April 3, June 10 and June 12.
