What's Happening in Stonyford: We need ideas for spring activities

Well, we're heading toward the end of February, and the end of the award shows on TV.

We've had People's Choice, Grammys, Emmys and assorted others. The big deal, though, is the Academy Awards. It's on this Sunday.

Also, football is over, but NASCAR is back. Daytona is this weekend. There is always something to keep us amused.

Tuesday dinner at the Grange this week is chicken cacciatore with pasta, salad, dessert and coffee or punch. Laurie P. is head cook this week, with help from Shirley, Chuck, Alice, and others — thank you very much. We start serving at 5 p.m.

Bingo is every Wednesday at 6 p.m. And Zumba is Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 5 p.m.

Sew What!? ladies meet on Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. We haven't been to visit the Paskenta group for awhile. They are having a potluck get-together with show and tell on March 12. I'm sure we'll be trekking up there for that event. We always enjoy our visits there.

I want to thank longtime friend Anna Dearing for encouraging me to do some hand stitching. It is so much quicker to use a sewing machine, I forget the pleasure of using some of the more traditional methods of quilting. It takes quite a bit longer to finish one by hand, but there's a nice reward at the end.

The quilt has quite a different look when hand-stitched. I started one in mid-December, and I'm about two-thirds of the way across now. It has been fun.

We can start thinking about this year's rodeo. It should be May 4-5, the first weekend in May. That weekend has turned out to be our big family reunion also. Everyone loves the rodeo and we have a big barbeque that Saturday night.

Debbie Alloway reported that our local medical clinic has reached 500 patients. The clinic is doing well, and is such a benefit to our community. It operates as a branch of the Colusa Regional Medical Center. It is so great to have this clinic available to our community. Thank you CRMC, and thank you, Debbie.

It's nearing springtime, and time to think of our Grange activities. I'm wondering if anyone has an interest in something new.

We could try line dancing, card games such as pinocle or cribbage, a flea market or craft fair, karaoke or music jam or open mike. Or it could be something I haven't even thought of. If you have any interest, give me a call, 218-7234.
