Man arrested on DUI after hitting power pole
A Colusa man was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after he splintered a power pole, hit the support cable of another and went through two fences before he rolled his pickup, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Darren B. Smith, 21, was south on River Road, about 1.5 miles south of Gridley Road, when his Ford F-150 veered off the roadway and hit a power pole.
"The force of the impact splintered the pole and broke off the top of the pole, causing the power lines to suspend in the air," the CHP reported.
"The vehicle continued along the right shoulder (of River Road) then veered to the right through a field fence, up onto the side of the levee, where it collided with the steel support cable for another power pole."
The truck continued forward along the side of the levee, then went left and back through the field fence where it rolled, coming to rest on its wheels, the CHP reported.
The CHP said Smith declined medical treatment. He was arrested and booked into Colusa County Jail. Bail was set at $1,673.
The accident occurred at about 6 a.m. Sunday.
