Suspect injured in police brawl
With Corning police Sgt. Craig Bassett and Officer Ian Anderson standing nearby, a paramedic prepares to place Joseph Eugene Ure II, 32, of Corning, on a backboard before transporting him by ambulance to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital around 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
Police were questioning Ure at El Paso and McLane avenues, due to a report of drug activity taking place in the area.
Ure was arrested for suspicion of being under the influence of a controlled substance, when police said he began to resist and fighting the police, throwing punches and kicking. Police took Ure to the ground and placed him in handcuffs, Bassett reported.
During the struggle, Ure sustained cuts and bruising to his face. Anderson suffered a small cut near his eye and swelling above his eye.
Following the arrest, Ure was released to the hospital for medical treatment.
