Viegas graduates from UCLA program
Mary Viegas from Child and Family Services in Orland is one of 38 graduates of the UCLA/Johnson and Johnson Head Start Management Fellows Program, an intensive two-week program conducted at the university's Anderson School of Management in Los Angeles.
Officials said the program was developed in 1991 to strengthen the management skills of head start administrators.
Areas studied included securing funding, implementing programs and networking with other Head Start mangers across the nation.
Fellowships are awarded annually to Head Start administrators selected by a specially assembled program advisory panel. There have been 1,400 graduates since the program's inception, officials said.
