Alicia Santiago, a former Colusa resident, has been recognized by her peers for heroic service
Colusa native called a hero

Alicia Santiago, daughter of Stephanie Quintana and Abel Santiago of Colusa and the granddaughter of Richard and Sally Steidlmayer, was named Indiana's Correctional Officer of the Year by the Indiana Sheriff's Association on July 26 for her heroic and meritorious service to the citizens of Jasper County and the state of Indiana.
Santiago helped foil an attempted escape of three violent inmates at the Jasper County Jail in Rensselaer, Indiana in October 2008.
Santiago had been working for the Jasper County Sheriff's department for only three months when the attempted break happened.
