Trial postponed for Stonyford man
The Glenn County trial for the Stonyford man charged in the 2007 drunken driving collision that resulted in the death of another Stonyford man was postponed Monday.
Levi Davis Gleason, 22, pleaded not guilty in March to charges of vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, diving under the influence causing great bodily injury and driving with a .08 percent blood alcohol level causing injury.
David Nelson, Gleason's attorney, said court proceedings were pushed back to March to allow both sides more time for trial preparation.
The state Attorney General's Office is prosecuting the case.
David Alexander, 27, died Nov. 30, 2007, nearly two weeks after he was ejected from a pickup that rolled over on County Road 306, north of Elk Creek. Alexander was initially believed to be the driver, but two of the vehicle's four occupants changed their statements in January 2008.
The California Highway Patrol then sought charges against Gleason as the driver, but the Glenn County District Attorney's Office declined the case in January 2008, claiming there was insufficient evidence.
The state attorney general's office reopened the case the following month after Alexander's family reportedly took the case to the state office in Sacramento.
Gleason is set to appear for a trial readiness conference March 11, a court spokeswoman confirmed Monday.
