What's Happening in Stonyford: Memorial service for resident

There is a memorial service today for longtime Stonyford resident Tom King.

That's today from 1-4 p.m. at the Grange Hall. Please stop by and pay your respects.

It looks like our weather may finally be cooling down to something close to normal. Thank goodness. Our adventures in Elk Creek last weekend were outdoors in 100-degree temperatures. I think we are all looking forward to autumn now.

The yard sale at the community church last Saturday was a success even though it was hot. There are always people waiting on the walk for starting time. Thank you to all who supported this event.

Tuesday night dinner at the Grange will be chicken enchiladas with Mexican rice and beans. We start serving at 5 p.m. and are usually finished these days by 6:30. Don't wait until the last minute. We hope to have flan for dessert as well as one other choice.

Sew What!? welcomes back Angel. She was under the weather for a bit after surgery, but is feeling well enough now to come out for awhile. We were working on a mystery quilt project the last couple of months. This month, it's a fast and furious "jelly roll race" quilt made out of 2.5-inch strips. You can sew it up in a day.

This one was so intriguing that it drew another lady into trying it. Lilly joined us for the fellowship and was determined to keep to small projects, but this one looked too easy to resist.

If you like to sew, stop in a check us out. We meet Wednesdays from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. and break at noon for a bite to eat. Soon, we will be working with two girls from 4-H, helping them to make a quilts for themselves.

Bingo is this Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Grange. Everyone is welcome. Please come out and support your Grange. We play on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month. This is a casual, friendly group. We like to pick on the caller when he makes a mistake.

Flu shots are available at the CRMC Clinic again on Friday, from 9 a.m.-noon. The price is a flat rate of only $10. Walk-ins are welcomed.

Harvest dinner is scheduled for Oct. 13 at 6 p.m. This is a potluck celebration for the whole community. Bring your favorite dish and join us. We will have an award for Citizen of the Year.

The Cake Walk is scheduled for 6 p.m. Oct. 27. We'll need volunteers to bake cakes. Halloween costumes are encouraged. If you think you don't need a cake in your house, you can donate it back to us, or freeze it for the holidays. Call me if you can bake for us.

Turkey Shoot is the first weekend in November, look for more info on this later.

Please call me if you would like more information on any of these items, or if you have information for me on anything happening in Stonyford, 963-3050 or 218-7234.
