Transit celebrates birthday with free ride

Need a ride or just want to check out Colusa Transit's bus schedule?

The Colusa County Transit Agency is celebrating its 30th anniversary Thursday with free rides to anywhere in Colusa County.

Colusa County Transit began Oct. 1, 1979 with just one nine-passenger mini-bus.

Today, it has grown to its current service of nine vehicles and ten full time employees that provide curb-to-curb service to the general population and door-to-door service for ADA passengers.

"We're grateful to the (Colusa County Transit and Transportation Commission) for letting us celebrate with a free day," said Barbara Salazar, manager. "We had a free day on our 10th anniversary and our 25th anniversary."

The Colusa County Transit Agency serves Colusa, Maxwell, Williams, Arbuckle, Grimes and Meridian between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m.

About 200 people ride the transit buses daily.

On Thursday, anyone can ride free, Salazar said.

"It's a great way to introduce people to the transit if they have never ridden before," Salazar said.
