A cowboy guides cattle down Market Street as part of the traditional Colusa Western Days parade. The three-day event starts Friday with the parade at 5:30 p.m. at Market and 10th streets.

Cotton Rosser's Flying U cowboys will drive a small herd of longhorns down Market Street on Friday evening for the traditional start of the Colusa Western Days.

it is the 15th year for the event that celebrates the western heritage of Colusa County.

The parade starts at 5:30 at Market and 10th streets.

It travels down Market to Fifth Street, then turns south to Fremont Street, then back toward Ninth before finishing up at the fairgrounds.

Spots are available in the parade, and those who just want to walk the parade are welcome, if they don western clothing.

The Colusa County Fairgrounds becomes home for the Western Days through the rest of the weekend, including the annual Trade Show, which runs all three days.

Opening night also features the entertaining Celebrity Penning competition at 7 p.m. at the arena, and the Ranch Horse Class event at 8.

The Young Farmers & Ranchers host a dinner and dance at the Main Exhibit Hall. The cost is $20 for dinner and dance and $10 for the dance alone.

Dinner starts at 6 p.m. and the music of Liquo nauts starts at 7.

Saturday opens with an 8 a.m. breakfast in the Trade Show area. Lunch is also served at the Trade Show.

The day's busy schedule kicks off at 9 a.m. with a variety of popular events, including the Livestock Skill-a-Thon, the branding event, and the Stonyford Queen Contest, with the winner being crowned at 12:30.

The Trade Show will run all day, and the Cars & Cowboys Car Show will also be featured outside the Main Exhibit Building.

Team sorting and penning gets under way around 10 a.m., and while separate from Western Days, the Family Faire will be open at 10 in the Festival Hall.

The popular Dutch Oven Cook-Off is at 1 p.m., and the team roping competition starts at 1:30.

The night's activities open at 5 with the Cowboy Steak Dinner at the Sheep Barn, and the the Amanda Edwards A+ Memorial Big Loop Ranch Roping show gets under way at 6:30 at T.K. Marshall Arena.

Sunday's breakfast will be served by the Colusa High Sober Grad Night participants in the Trade Show area, with the team penning starting at 9.

At 11, the BBQ Rib Cook-Off is slated to begin.

The event is put on by the Glenn Colusa Cattlewomen.
