Hoops tournament trail stops in Arbuckle

Pierce, Colusa, Maxwell all in action on hardcourt

The gymnasium at Pierce High in Arbuckle was the center of the basketball universe as far as Colusa County teams were concerned over the weekend, as the Bears, Redskins and Panthers were all in action. This was the 43rd Annual Pierce Invitational, and offered exciting roundball action to fans from the tri-counties.

Colusa 68, Maxwell 57

The two Colusa County neighbors went head-to-head Saturday, with Geoff MacPherson lighting up the scoreboard for 28 points, which included a half dozen from three-point land, as Colusa went off for 10 from long distance. Benji Gil dropped a pair in his 17-point effort, Nick Allegrini nailed two in his 10-point performance, and Jeremy Hernandez also hit for 10 points.

Gil posted a double-double by patrolling the paint for 11 rebounds, and MacPherson's fast hands accounted for six steals.

Winters 72, Colusa 44

In their tournament opener Thursday, MacPherson was the only Redskin in double figures with 14 points, but Winters' Skyler Geerts copped game-scoring honors with his 23.

Live Oak 68, Colusa 42

The Redskins were unable to climb out of a 21-9 hole following the opening period, losing their Friday game.

MacPherson led Colusa with 13 points, while Allegrini added eight.

Biggs 51, Maxwell 41

Maxwell statistics were not available for either game.

Colusa (1-2) hosted Williams Tuesday and suits up this weekend for play in the Live Oak Tournament.
