Colusa blanks Gridley in softball opener

Lady Redskins make the most of four hits

It may not have been the most artistic win they will record all season, but coach Randy Watt and the Colusa High softball team was not complaining about Tuesday's 4-0 win at Gridley.

Colusa managed just four hits, but pitcher Tiffany Friel surrendered just two while fanning 13 Bulldogs batters.

The Redskins scored a lone run in the 2nd when Kayla Cunha delivered s single up the middle, moved to second an Andee Clare's sacrifice bunt, and scored on Kati Hunt's RBI-single.

In the 5th, Hunt walked leading off and then took off for second on Taylor Herrick's sac bunt attempt. Gridley's throw to first sailed wide, allowing Hunt to come all the way around and sending Herrick to third. Friel's infield ground-out then scored Herrick.

Colusa tagged on a run in the 6th on another Cunha single, and a bases-loaded walk drawn by leadoff hitter Rylee Kampf.

Cunha finished the day 2-for-4 at the plate, with Hunt and Ashley Biggs accounting for the other Colusa safeties.

The 1-0 Redskins looked to defend the home diamond this weekend in their home tourney.
