‘Skins merciless to Warriors
Colusa High tennis team opens season with shutout
The Colusa High tennis team showed absolutely no mercy to the Lady Warriors on Thursday in Colusa, thumping Mercy for a 9-0 win.
"Mercy is in a rebuilding year with many first-time players. Having only three practices before this match showed up in their play," explained Jim Imhoff, Colusa coach.
Taking that into consideration, the coach also said, "The Colusa girls served well in all the matches, and were very aggressive in their doubles play."
Double bagels were served up by Madison Forney, Kim Harmon, Coral Imhoff, and Mackenzie Bressler, as the quartet did not drop a game to Samantha Mondragon, Stephanie Cheek, Mahalee Gaumer or Irlanda Hernandez in their respective singles matches.
Katy Tarr, Colusa's No. 2 singles player on the ladder, stopped Rebecca Gasmon 6-0, 6-2; and Ashley Cotter defeated Jessica Li 6-1, 6-0 in the sixth match.
In the doubles sweep, Harmon/Imhoff won 8-1 in the first match, followed by Bressler/Cotter (8-4) and Sydney Lunsford teamed with Hayley Prasad for an 8-0 win on the third court.
Colusa hosted Orland Tuesday, and travels to Sutter Thursday.
