RedHawks 1-2-1 at Shasta Lake tournament

After a strong start to the Shasta Lake Bass Baseball Tournament at Big League Dreams in Redding, the Colusa High baseball team lost its final two games.

Colusa 10, Paradise 2

The RedHawks weren't intimidated by Paradise High on Wednesday during the tournament opener Wednesday against the Northern Section Division I squad.

Colusa, which plays in Division III, relied on a strong pitching performance from Ross Cervantes to pull off a 10-2 victory.

Cervantes struck out six, walked one and allowed four hits in six innings on the hill, and the offense provided plenty of run support with three runs in the third inning and five more in the fourth.

Joe Ferrini went 2-for-4 with a double and drove in three runs; Tyler Martin added three hits, an RBI and three runs scored; and Cyrus Yerxa went 2-for-4 with a double, two runs and an RBI. In addition to earning the victory, Cervantes singled and drove in two runs.

Colusa 4, Central Valley 4

Central Valley, a Division II team, sent the game into extra innings with a run in the top of the seventh but neither team found a way to score again and the teams settled for a 4-4 tie after nine innings Wednesday afternoon.

Kyle Cervantes threw all nine innings for Colusa and allowed just four runs despite the RedHawks' defense struggling with eight errors. Cervantes allowed seven hits and four walks while striking out seven.

Luke Corriea and Ross Cervantes both went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI to account for all four of Colusa's hits in the game.

Anderson 4, Colusa 1

For six of the seven innings the RedHawks kept Anderson High off the scoreboard Thursday, but a four-run fifth inning gave the Cubs the victory.

Colusa out-hit Anderson, a Division II team, 8-6 but were unable to turn hits into runs.

Shasta 8, Colusa 0

Shasta High ended Colusa's tournament with an 8-0 shutout on Friday. The loss dropped Colusa's record to 10-5-1 overall and the RedHawks remain 2-1 in Sacramento Valley League play.
