Brittanee Garcia gave Colusa a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI triple and scored on a throwing error. Southshore pitcher Amanda Graf shut Colusa down in the second and third before three errors, two walks and a bunt single led to five Colusa runs in the fourth.

Southshore scored three times on six walks in the bottom of the fourth, but Colusa came back with a run in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Ashley Azevedo.

Rodriguez made a rare assist from center field, throwing a runner out at first base on a sharply hit ball to center field in the bottom half of the inning, and followed up with a run-scoring double in the top of the sixth.

Azevedo led off the top of the seventh with a double to center field before Amanda Hansen hit a two-run single and Rodriguez added an RBI single with no outs. Lauren Ferriera hit a one-out RBI single for a 15-4 Colusa lead.

Southshore scored three times in the bottom half of the seventh but Colusa held on and advanced in the winners bracket. Colusa played again Tuesday night. Results will appear in Saturday's paper.

Major Division

Sutter Area 8, Colusa 0

For the first three innings the Colusa Major All-Star team held its own against a tough Sutter Area squad in the opening round of the tournament, but a late surge of offense by Sutter Area and dominant pitching proved to be too much.

Chloey Bell struck out five through three no-hit innings and walked two for Sutter Area before giving way to Katie Anderson, who struck out three in three innings while allowing two hits and four walks.

Josie Garafalo and Ashley Huff singled in the sixth inning for Colusa's only two hits in the loss on Friday at Peach Bowl Little League in Yuba City. Huff reached base in all three of her at bats, walking twice in addition to her single.

Hanna Schneider allowed four hits in four innings while striking out three for Colusa. She allowed five runs but only two were earned.

Westside 5, Wheatland 4

Westside rallied back to beat Wheatland in the opening round of the Major Division tournament 5-4, with a run in the bottom of the sixth inning on Saturday at Peach Bowl Little League in Yuba City.

Westside fell behind 3-1 in the third and trailed 4-2 in the fourth but clawed back with one run in each of the final four innings. Madison Miller went 3 for 4 with two runs scored, Giselle Hernandez drove in a run on two hits and Hailey Traynham went 1 for 2 with an RBI.

Elizabeth Diaz earned the victory by tossing a four-hitter and striking out seven in six innings.

Minor Division

Colusa 17, Sutter Buttes 7

Helena Harris and Annie Lay combined to pitch a three-hitter, and Theresa Mitchum went 2 for 3 with a home run and four RBIs for Colusa in a 17-7 tournament opening victory on Sunday in Wheatland.

Harris pitched the first four innings and was productive at the plate, hitting a double and scoring three runs. Cynthia Velasquez played outstanding defense in center field.

Olivehurst-Linda 19, Westside 4

Ariana Garcia-Ochoa hit a two-run double and scored a run but Westside was unable to sustain much offense against an outstanding pitcher. Callie Muniz singled and stole home but Westside lost to Olivehurst-Linda on Sunday in Wheatland.

Minor Division

Wheatland 16, Westside 6

The young Westside team was eliminated from the Minor Division tournament on Monday with a 16-6 loss to Wheatland but had a good experience facing a big step up in competition.

Madeline Whitehair hit a triple and scored a run, Callie Muniz went 2 for 3 with a run, Emily Ehrke went 2 for 2 and scored two runs, and Holly Azevedo singled, scored and drove in a run.
