Rugby returns to Colusa County on Saturday
The Colusa County Rugby Football Club is back for the third consecutive year after an eight-year hiatus.
Starting Saturday, the men in green from Colusa are set for another season of wild fun in the Northern California Rugby Football Union's Division III.
The first game of the season begins at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Egling Middle School against the Mendocino Steam Donkey Rugby Club. Last season, Colusa defeated Mendocino 70-0.
In 2011, their first year back, the Colusa ruggers went 7-0 in the regular season before losing to Redwood Empire 24-20 in the first round of the playoffs.
Last season, the entire Northern California Rugby Football Union Division III was ready for them, and the Colusa ruggers finished the regular season 4-3 before losing in the first round of the playoffs once again.
This year, Colusa has a new coach and most of the team is set to return with their sights on a run deeper into the playoffs.
Colusa has four home games this year. They play against Mendocino on Saturday, Shasta on Feb. 2, State of Jefferson on Feb. 23 and Redwood Empire on March 9. All games begin at 1 p.m.
The team plays Redwood Empire in Santa Rosa on Jan. 26, Humboldt in Arcata on Feb. 16, Mendocino in Ukiah on March 2 and Shasta in Redding on March 16.
