Colusa teams split in All-star play

Gabby DeLaRosa, Ashleigh Biggs, Mattie Myers and Amanda Hansen combined for a four-inning no-hitter on Sunday as the Colusa major softball all-stars defeated Southshore 18-1 in Clearlake.

While the Colusa pitching was limiting Southshore to just a single run, the Colusa offense was bashing out 13 hits. DeLaRosa was 3-for-4 with two RBI while Hansen, Gabby Rodriguez, Lauren Ferreira and Ashley Biggs all had a pair of hits. Hansen drove in two runs, Rodriguez plated three and Ferreira and Biggs each had an RBI.

Colusa scored 12 runs in the first inning, two in the second and four in the third.

Colusa played Westshore on Monday. The results of the contest were unavailable at press time. If Colusa won, it plays today at 5:30 p.m. If it lost, it played Southshore in an elimination game on Tuesday.

The Colusa Major All-Stars dropped their opener at the District 2 Major Baseball All-Stars Tournament in Lakeport on Saturday, falling to the heavy-hitting Westshore All-Stars 8-1.

Colusa played Kelseyville in an elimination game on Monday. Results were unavailable at press time.

Westshore belted a pair of home runs in the game, including one by Alex Castillo and another by Brad Bologna. After the two teams went scoreless through the first two frames, Westshore scored three in the third, two in the fourth and three more in the fifth to build its lead.

Meanwhile Colusa was only able to push one run across in the third inning. Gavino Mitchum led off the frame with an infield single. He worked his way to third base on a pair of passed balls and then scored on a wild pitch.

Colusa was unable to get a hit the rest of the game and had only four other baserunners over the final three innings.

Please make it a point to let the KIDS pick the All Star team. As it is now the All Stars are picked by the coaches and guess what, every single coaches kid continues to make the All Stars. Let the kids pick they will always pick the best players on the team. Every year I witness kids being left at home so that the coaches kids can go to the All Stars. Colusa Area Little League needs to wake up. Its not about making sure that your kid gets on the All Stars its about SENDING THE BEST KIDS TO BRING HOME A CHAMPIONSHIP. Enough is enough let the kids pick the All Stars!
