Colusa Cats drop pair to Chico Blue
The Colusa Cats came up short against Chico Suns Blue last week, falling twice by scores of 5-4 and 7-3.
The two losses drops Colusa to 26-7 on the season with the district tournament scheduled to begin today. Results from Colusa’s games with Red Bluff on Saturday and Gridley on Monday were not available at press time.
In the first game, Chico pulled out the win in the bottom of the seventh inning to break a 4-4 tie.
Colusa scored a single run in the first inning on an RBI single by Hayden Meyers.
Colusa added two more in the fifth. James Bowen singled home a run and he later scored on a groundout.
In the sixth, Colusa took the lead with an RBI groundout by Steven Perry that plated Ottie Harris.
However Chico scored a run in the bottom of the sixth and added the winning run in the seventh.
Jeremy Hubbard started on the mound and went five innings before giving way to Jake Driver, who pitched the final two frames and was saddled with the loss.
Memo Rodriguez was 2-for-4 while Sean Rawlin had a double.
In the second game, Colusa held the 3-1 lead after three frames, but Chico scored one run in the fourth and five in the fifth to pull away for the 7-3 victory.
Brandon Rader continued his hot hitting with a 3-for-4 effort that included a double and an RBI. Meyers also had a pair of hits, including a double and a triple, with one RBI. Rodriguez and Darren Swearinger each added one double with Swearinger knocking in a run.
Bowen took the loss, pitching the fifth inning in relief of starter Tyler Wells.
