Youth football season kicks off Saturday
The Colusa Cowboys open the youth football season on Saturday when they participate in the annual jamboree, which will be held in Woodland this year at Pioneer Field.
Colusa will be looking to get back to the championship game this year after advancing to the finals of the NorCal Federation Division 2 peewee finals in 2008.
Colusa finished as the third place team in the Southern Conference last year and defeated No. 2 seed from the North, Orland, in the first round 6-0 on the Aztecs’ home field.
Colusa advanced to play South Siskiyou the following week and won 13-7.
In the finals. the Cowboys fell in a close battle with the Corning Lions, 6-0.
Many of the players from last year’s peewee team will now play on the junior midget squad this year.
The peewees finished the season with an 8-4 record last year. The junior midgets posted a 2-7 record while the midgets were winless at 0-9.
The Cowboys open their season on August 23 at home when they take on the Orland Aztecs.
Colusa has a bye during the second week, but will play home games on Sept. 13 against Oroville, Sept. 27 against Wheatland, Oct. 11 against Yuba City and Oct. 18 against Lincoln.
