Cowboys try to lasso Chargers
With all the scrimmages and jamborees behind them, the Colusa Cowboys took the field for real at Colusa High on Saturday, kicking off the regular season against the Yreka Chargers.
The Cowboys remain at home this week, hosting Orland.
Peewees
The Cowboys took all the charge out of Yreka, posting a 13-0 shutout.
Adam McKasson scored on a 60-yard run in the first quarter, with Dylan Jones taking the ball across for the PAT. Jones then scrambled for a 25-yard score in the third period.
Jones led the backfield with 108 yards on the ground, followed by McKasson (90), Ronald Daniels (20), and Diego Villanueva (15).
Defensively, Jones made 12 tackles, Ben Rainsbarger added six, and McKasson, Daniels and Delgado, four apiece.
Midgets
Colusa short-circuited the Chargers 20-0, on the strength of a 95-yard TD excusrion by Adrian Pedraza, and a 62-yard jaunt by Damien Garcia. Brian Burg scored the other TD for the Cowboys.
Alex Belmontes pitched in with 25 yards on the ground, as well as punt returns of 15 and 20 yards, to go along with a forced fumble. Sal Ybarra fell on a fumble as well.
Jr. Midgets
The Cowboys were bested 20-6. Statistics were not provided.
