Trojans take down RedHawks
The extreme wind on a frigid Tuesday couldn't keep the Orland High boys tennis team from vanquishing visiting Colusa 8-1, during the RedHawks' first matchup of the season.
Orland ace Jonathan Vasquez defied the breeze, defeating Moises Valdez 6-1, 6-0, while Ray Hecox took down Jordan Wilson 6-0, 6-1 and Guillermo Banuelos out-played Jeremy Walls 6-1, 6-0.
Mauricio Ziranda continued the Trojans' winning ways, besting Jack Zhao 6-1, 6-1, while teammate Draven Yahn defeated RedHawk Diego Rivas 6-0, 6-0, with Eric Aguiano rounding out the matches with a win over Juan Carlos Ruiz 6-0, 6-0.
Colusa coach Amanda Jones highlighted the focus of her team in the upcoming season, saying "We have a few goals this season. Along with improving overall and skill-wise, I'm hoping the older and more experienced players will act like mentors to the newer (and less experienced players) and that in turn, they will both grow from that."
