Some schools have difficulty with the name game

What’s in a name? Most likely laughs if you needed to suit up and face some of these high school sports teams. While names are sometimes picked to instill a sense of fear into the opposition, or to represent strength or power, let’s just say some of these team names fall a tad short.

Poets
Sidney Lanier High in Montgomery, Ala., gives us the Poets. “Two, four, six, eight, you can’t keep your pentameters straight!”

Papermakers
Camas High in Washington suits up the Papermakers. It’s not clear whether the team strikes fear in the hearts of its opponents, but it has been known to give visiting teams great deals on paper for their banners and signs.

Burgers
Maybe the Warrensburg (New York) High School is just setting itself up to be eaten up by opponents, but the team name might be a good reminder for its students to take their educations seriously. If not, they may later be asking, “Do you want fries with that?”

Earwigs
Staying in our own state, you’ll face the Earwigs if you play Dunn High School from Los Olivos. The Earwigs have proven to be real pests to their opponents.

Noises
What could be scarier than playing a team that can’t be seen? How about playing one that attacks your auditory senses! The Noises are made by Nathan Hale-Ray High of Moodus, Conn.

Exporters
Brazosport High in Freeport, Texas, gives us the Exporters. Rumor has it that the team’s best defense is to send its opponents packing with no paperwork so they get held up in customs.

Muckers
Fighting Muckers

Some team names just invite abuse. I give you the Muckers and the Fighting Muckers, respectively, from Virginia City and Tonopah, both in Nevada. Nothing to add to this one!
