Lady RedHawks do court battle in Durham
Colusa High's girls basketball team sandwiched a 49-44 Friday win against Hoopa Valley between Thursday's 57-52 loss to Gridley and a 43-42 defeat by Orland on Saturday to go 1-2 in the Durham Trojan Classic Tournament over the weekend.
In Thursday's matchup, Colusa and Gridley were tied 38-38 entering the final period, but the RedHawks were outscored by five in the final eight minutes.
Mattie Myers led Colusa in scoring with 15 points, and Teale Stacey was also in double figures with 13.
Emily Mobley controlled the glass for 16 rebounds and blocked a shot.
The RedHawks built up a 30-15 lead by halftime on Friday, but had to withstand a Hoopa Valley charge to hold on for the five-point win.
Mobley secured a double-double with 16 points and 20 rebounds. Following her in the scoring column were Paige Townzen with 11 points, Mattie Myers (9) and Yasmin Moreno (8). Townzen also grabbed nine boards.
Colusa has the Trojans where they wanted them on Saturday, holding a 35-29 advantage after three quarters, but were outscored 14-7 in the final period to lose by a point.
Stacey's 13 points led the RedHawks (3-4) and Townzen pitched in with 11 and Mobley, 10. Mobley put up another monster game with 23 rebounds for another double-double, and Townzen's 10 boards gave her one as well.
The RedHawks are on the court in Hamilton City this weekend for the Marty Passaglia Invitational.
