Princeton drops Downieville
The Downieville High girls volleyball team forgot to dig its game out of the ball bag when they visited the Princeton gymnasium Tuesday and it was too late once they found it, as the Lady Eagles sent them home in a hurry, 25-3, 25-16, 25-17.
The Eagles' two flying aces — Kodi Gimblin and Erika Donohugh — teamed for 15 ace serves, with Gimblin taking aim for eight of them. The pair ranked second and fourth in the Northern Section, respectively, with averages of 1.7 and 1.5 aces per game. Jordan Leonard's five, and three each from Niki Elwood and Carol Rodriguez, contributed to Princeton's total of 30.
Mia Nelson put in a strong night at the net, spiking down a team-high seven kills, with Taylor Stilwell adding five, and Gimblin and Leonard getting offensive for three apiece.
Gimblin also proved her versatility by setting her teammates for 16 assists.
The Eagles improved to 2-1 in the Pioneer League and 8-9-1 overall, before meeting up with league-leading Providence (3-0, 8-4) in Orland Thursday and hosting Herlong Friday.
Princeton plays at Elk Creek Tuesday, and returns home for a rematch against Providence Thursday.
