Eagles swat Yellowjackets with 9-run fifth

It should come as no surprise how much a nine-run inning can change the complexion of a high school baseball game.

Such was the case in Williams Tuesday, when the visiting Eagles from Princeton High erupted for nine in the top of the fifth inning to put away the Yellowjackets 12-2.

Angel Mitchum, Nick Hansen, Cody Hansen, and Rod Angus all banged out a pair of hits for Princeton, with Michum doubling twice and chasing a pair of runs home. The two Hansens and Angus each had one of their hits go for two bases, with Angus also driving in two. The Eagles collected a total of 11 hits.

Nick Hansen, Fernando Sotelo and Darren Swearinger all took turns on the hill, holding Williams to just Danny Schaefer's double for their lone hit.

Schaefer accounted for both of the Jackets' RBIs.

Schaefer pitched 4 1/3 innings, allowing seven runs, just one of which was earned. He also struck out a pair and walked two.

Princeton upped their season record to 3-2, before beginning the weekend's Bobby Hill Memorial Tournament in Biggs.

The Eagles host Hamilton Tuesday, and then venture to Maxwell Thursday.

Williams fell to 1-2, and is also in action in Biggs.

Next week, the Yellowjackets are in action at Mercy Wednesday, and play in the Maxwell Tournament over the weekend.
