Williams boys, girls held off by Esparto

The Spartans from Esparto High came, saw and conquered Tuesday, as they visited Williams and handed both the boys and girls squads Sacramento Valley League setbacks.

The boys team was deadlocked with Esparto 1-1 at the break, but the Spartans exploded for four second-half goals, allowing just one from Williams to hand the Jackets a 5-2 loss.

Alberto Santana and Francisco Aguirre each netted a pair of goals for Esparto, with Rafael Lopez adding the other.

On the girls field, Esparto made a lone first-half goal stand up to blank the Jackets 1-0.

Williams statistics were not provided, and calls for statistics were not returned.

The boys (0-2) and girls (2-1) played at Pierce Thursday.

Next week the Yellowjackets travel to play at Live Oak on Thursday.
