Garcia washing cars to fund trip

Colusa High softball player Sophia Garcia is holding a car wash today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Superior Tire Service in Colusa to raise money for her trip to the Dominican Republic

Garcia is traveling with the America's Team program on a softball tour of the Dominican Republic from July 8-15. Her prowess as a pitcher for the RedHawks, and the Rocklin Hype Gold 18-under traveling team, opened the door for her to take her skills around the world.

America's Team takes baseball and softball teams to foreign countries to play against local competition. The organization is a partner with American Council for International Studies, which organizes educational tours, and the athletes spend their down time learning about the country and its culture.

Garcia needs to raise $3,600 for the trip by April 9.
