Maxwell girls fall just short

If only for one more field goal or two free throws here or there.

The Maxwell High girls basketball team dropped a heartbreaker at home Tuesday, being edged by the Mustangs from Champion Christian 34-32.

Laramie Vargas led by example for the Lady Panthers, taking aim for 13 points and 16 rebounds — both numbers being team highs.

Ashley Pfyl finished second in scoring with six points, Kendall Vierra pitched in with five, and Laura Wells made good for four.

Vierra also posted team highs with four assists and a pair of steals.

Maxwell (11-7, 2-4 North Valley League) hosted Redding Adventist on Thursday. Its two games next week are at Paradise Adventist on Tuesday, and at Westwood Friday.
