Hydro Jets compete at Gridley
Despite smoky skies in much of the area, local swimmers opted to go different directions and compete in both the Gridley and Redding Invitationals this past weekend.
Willows Hydro Jet swimmers, competing under the NorCal Aquatics banner, captured third place in the team standings at the Gridley Invitational. The team was lead by 17-year-old Christa Prior, who swam to an incredible 11 first place finishes, and brought home the high-points award for the 17/18 girls. Kelsey Collins was the second place high-points finisher in that age group.
Matt Collins dominated the 15/16 boys, taking high-points and receiving the Tim Brumley Memorial Award for his gold medal in the 100-yard breaststroke. Adding to the team total was 13/14 girls swimmer Melissa Collins, who finished second in the 200 butterfly.
Stephanie Carriere captured gold in the 100-, 200- and 500-yard freestyle events for the 11/12 girls and Matt Wolder swam to bronze in the 200 freestyle and 100 Individual Medley for the 9/10 boys.
Christina Carriere took three golds for the 7/8 girls in the 50 & 100-yard freestyles and 50 breaststroke, while Emily Wolder swam to silver in the 25 butterfly and 25 backstroke.
In the 7/8 boys division, Sean Carriere captured a silver in the 100 freestyle and a bronze in the 50 freestyle, with teammate Nick Isola holding on for bronze in the 50 backstroke.
The Redding Invitational saw NorCal swimmer Cypress Lampe boast first place finishes in the 100- & 200-meter freestyles for the 13/14 girls, while Kasey Foley grabbed silver in the 100 butterfly for the 13/14 boys.
Noah Parham dominated the field in the 100 backstroke taking gold for the 11/12 boys; Liam Monniger took first in the 50-meter breaststroke for the 9/10 boys.
Teagan Parham captured gold in the 200 Individual Medley and 100-meter freestyle for the 9/10 girls and Hayden Lampe held on for second in the 50 butterfly.
In the 8&Under divisions, Rory Monninger took two silvers for the 100 freestyle and 100 butterfly and Olivia Parham was the silver medalist in the 50-meter freestyle.
Colusa competes at Gridley
The Colusa swim team also competed at Gridley, sending 13 swimmers to the weekend event.
