Lady Redskins fall in second round 1-0

After posting 14 runs in a first round win over Chester on Tuesday, the Colusa High School varsity softball team was unable to come up with any runs in the second round against Esparto, losing 1-0 to the Spartans.

The loss eliminated Colusa, the No. 3 seed, from the Northern Section Division 5 tournament. Esparto advanced to play Quincy in the semifinals on Thursday.

The Redskins bashed 10 hits in a 14-0 win over the Volcanoes in the early game. Colusa pushed seven runs across in the first inning and added three more in the second and four in the third.

Kristi Nair was 3-for-4 to lead the Redskin offense. Rylee Kampf and Emily Correa each added a pair of hits.

Tiffany Friel picked up the win, throwing seven scoreless frames and giving up just three hits while striking out six.

The Redskins were unable to solve the pitching slants of Esparto freshman Savanah King, who gave up no runs on six hits. Esparto defeated Portola 10-9 in the other semifinal game on Tuesday at Colusa.

Friel went the distance and allowed just one run on three hits with four strikeouts.

Lambert led the hitting attack with two singles. Kampf, Hannah Ash, Chelsea Kraft and Correa each had a basehit.

The Redskins end the season with a 23-7-1 record.
