Knight receives scholarship to play football for Puget Sound

Williams High senior Erik Knight accepted a scholarship to play football for the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Wash.

Puget Sound, a NCAA Division III school that plays in the Northwest Conference, wasn't on Knight's radar before the Loggers' coach contacted Knight midway through the football season.

The scholarship offer came as a surprise to Knight because he didn't know any schools were looking at him and didn't expect to play football after high school.

Knight jumped at the chance to continue playing football after playing wide receiver and defensive back for the Yellowjackets.

"I'm really excited about it because it was kind of an underwhelming year to go out on, it's not what I wanted for my senior year," Knight said.

In addition to football, Knight currently plays baseball and runs track for Williams where his speed is his greatest weapon.

The scholarship is a $22,000 a year and Knight plans on studying engineering.
